Students in Fort Hays State University’s Art and Design Programs are the key inspirational ingredients of a thriving, supportive and passionate community of artists who enjoy producing their own artwork and collaborating on group projects.
You will work closely with professors, who guide hands-on learning experiences and help you develop your talents as you gain confidence as an artist, designer or arts educator. Here at Fort Hays State, you will be challenged every day, and we will provide the resources and mentorship that prepare you for success and a rewarding career in the arts segment you desire.
There are many opportunities to advance your skills in your specific areas of interest:

- Develop your talents and fuel your passion as an artist
- Have 24-hour access to modern computer labs, art studios and facilities, including the department foundry
- Have opportunities you might not get at larger schools. Because FHSU has the resources of a state school combined with a smaller, intimate campus atmosphere, you not only get more personal attention from your professors, but you also won't have to “wait your turn” to experience everything the department has to offer
- Be prepared to pursue a career as a graphic designer, web designer, interior designer, educator or other art-based career
- Be a member of an active arts-centered community in Hays, Kansas. You might exhibit your work at local businesses during three seasonal "Art Walks," showcase your art at other local and state shows or nationally at exhibitions
