What To Expect
The staff at the Neuromuscular Wellness Center understands that starting a fitness program can be intimidating. To increase your comfort, here's an idea about what you might expect as a participant in the program:
On your first visit:
- The participant will be assessed by an exercise physiologist to address personal health concerns and/or fitness and mobility goals.
- If there have been recent (<6 months) or known symptomatic cardiovascular or pulmonary incidents, the participant will be assessed by a certified cardiac rehabilitation professional for exercise prescription recommendations.
- The participant will be given the option to complete a functional mobility assessment, unless deemed necessary by the clinical staff of the neuromuscular wellness center to address fall risks and or safety concerns.
- The participant will be able to meet and engage with student assistants and other program participants.
- A formal orientation and training session will be completed to allow the participant to become familiar with the resistance training & cardiovascular equipment available in the facility.
On every visit:
- Program participants will have their vitals and subjective reports documented and monitored.
- Most visits typically last 45-60 minutes, which may include gait training, cardiopulmonary exercise, resistance training, balance training, neuromuscular re-education, and mobility/flexibility activities.
- Supervision and encouragement to participate will be provided as needed.
- Consultations will be available as requested for new episodes of pain, falling, or regression/change of function.
