Corporate Communications Concentration
About the Program
Earning a degree in liberal studies provides you the opportunity to systematically explore a wide realm of knowledge and wisdom to help you better understand yourself, others and the world around you. Liberal studies focus on intellectual, social, and moral growth and helps foster your love of learning.
The online Corporate Communication concentration is designed for experienced business professionals and for those in leadership positions. Graduates will have expertise to enter corporate communication to work in business, nonprofit, and governmental organizations.
Corporate Communication focuses on analysis, critical thinking, problem solving, writing skills, research, and analytics. These essential skills facilitate the development and implementation of effective communication strategies that advance an organization's goals and mission.
Program Admissions Requirements
In addition to the standard admissions requirements and materials for the MLS, individuals applying for admittance into the MLS concentration in Corporate Communication must:
- Have earned a GPA of 2.75 or higher on the last 60 undergraduate hours.
- Submit a professional resume.
- Submit a personal statement discussing:
- Your previous exposure to, and interest in, the field of corporate communication.
- How this degree will contribute to your personal and professional goals.
- Your ability to complete graduate-level work that will require you to
- Communicate professionally in oral and written formats.
- Research and engage in critical analysis of business-related issues.
- Meet set deadlines.
- Please be detailed in your discussion, and reference experiences on your submitted resume.
The program has also established these deadlines for priority application consideration:
- Fall - May 1
- Spring - December 1
- Summer - April 1
Program Curriculum
MLS Core Courses: 10 credit hours (required)
- IDS 801: Introduction to Graduate Liberal Studies
- IDS 802: Ways of Knowing in Comparative Perspective
- IDS 803: Origins and Implications of the Knowledge Society
- IDS 804: Information Literacy
Concentration Core: 12 credit hours
- BCOM 601G: Managerial Communication
- BCOM 680G: Strategic Communications for Managing Diversity and Inclusion
- BCOM 690G: Professional Development
- BCOM 692G: Managerial Presentations and Reports
Choose two of the following : 6 credit hours
- LDRS: Choice of LDRS course (requires advisor approval)
- BCOM 677G: Internship in Business Communication (requires advisor approval)
- COMM 606G: Managing Conflict Through Communication
- COMM 642G: Crisis Management
Culminating Experience: 3 credit hours
- BCOM 695G: Corporate Communication
