Academic Advising
The primary purpose of FHSU's academic advising program is to assist students in the development of meaningful educational plans that will be compatible with career aspirations and contribute to the process of preparing for a life of change, challenge, and individual fulfillment.
Academic advising is a priority at FHSU and is a critical strategy tied to Goal 2: Student Success in the university’s strategic plan; to create opportunities for all students and empower them to identify, evaluate, and achieve their goals while becoming engaged global citizens.
At Fort Hays academic advising is based on a system of shared responsibility between the student and the academic advisor and is a process of continuous improvement, clarification, and evaluation with the aim of furthering institutional advising goals and desired student outcomes.
We assign an academic advisor for each student based on their program of study. Undergraduate students are assigned to a professional academic advisor, while graduate students are assigned a faculty advisor or professional advisor depending on their program of study.
Academic Advisors are professionals with whom students meet and talk one-on-one throughout their time at Fort Hays. Advisors assist students in academic planning for each academic period registration, addressing concerns regarding academic success in courses as they arise, making referrals to help students connect to student services, answering questions regarding information, procedures, and academic requirements, and providing assist for our advisees when they do not know who to reach out to for help.
