Exploratory Student Advising
An exploratory student is an intelligent, well-rounded student who is interested in many things but may not be ready to focus on one specific area. Exploratory students typically have an idea of what they want to major in; they understand the importance of earning a degree, but they want to investigate all their academic and career options before committing to a specific major.
At FHSU, exploratory majors are advised in the Academic Advising and Career Exploration Center. Exploratory majors work with professional academic advisors for 1-2 semesters to develop a plan to complete academic requirements while also making progress towards major declaration. During the first year at FHSU, Exploratory majors will meet with their academic advisor at least six times (3 in the first semester, 3 in the second semester) to build a relationship that empowers them to be successful academically and to gain the knowledge and confidence to declare this major.
