Be a part of one of the most unique high school experiences in the world.
From the heart of the United States, the Academy of Mathematics & Science (AMS) at Fort Hays State University (FHSU) equips students to reach higher and seize the future. AMS is one of two early college programs at FHSU designed to provide an unparalleled academic experience for gifted & talented high school students from around the world. AMS hosts students who are considered out-of-state residents or international high school students. Admission is selective and competitive.
AMS provides an innovative, residential early college experience for students to complete during their 11th (junior) and 12th (senior) grade years. The program provides a blend of:
- college-level instruction by Ph.D. faculty at Fort Hays State University in Hays, Kansas;
- an opportunity to earn an Associate of General Studies (A.G.S.) in Science from FHSU;
- a U.S. high school diploma and over 60 hours of college credit;
- hands-on research experiences with Ph.D. faculty;
- leadership development and civic engagement opportunities;
- co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities to develop the whole student;
- a safe residential environment that fosters learning.
Students in both AMS and the Kansas Academy of Mathematics & Science (KAMS) register in the same classes, conduct research together, live in the same residence hall, join forces for competitions, and can participate in the same clubs and organizations.
