American Express Planning Invitational
2007 Third Place Finish
Julie Olson, Jason Bock, Brittney Stecklein
Students Jason Bock, a financial planning major from Ellsworth; Julie Olson, a financial planning major from Beloit; and Brittney Stecklein, a financial planning and accounting double major from Hays, represented Fort Hays State University at the Ameriprise Financial Planning Invitational national competition in Minneapolis in April 2007. This team of students participated in three phases of the competition: a written financial plan, an oral presentation of the plan, and a game show event. FHSU came home with a third place trophy and $1,000 in scholarship money for the financial planning program at FHSU. Fort Hays competed with schools from across the nation and was one of only eight teams to be invited to the final round of competition in Minneapolis. Other schools participating in the final round were Virginia Tech (placing first), Kansas State (placing second), Texas Tech, Wright State, Minnesota State-Mankato, Appalachian State, and Slippery Rock. Fort Hays has been in the top five in the nation every year for the past seven years.
