November 13-17
Each year, over 100,000 plus world-wide citizens actively participate in Geography Awareness Week. Geography Awareness Week, aka GAW or GeoWeek, was established by Presidential proclamation over 36 years ago. This annual public awareness program, organized by National Geographic Education Programs (NGEP) and coordinated in the US for 2023 by the American Association of Geographers (AAG), encourages citizens young and old to think and learn about the interconnectedness of our world.
This year we will explore The Power of Place
with events tied to the 5 themes of Geography.

11/13 Monday
Know your Place? Know your World!
9:30 am - 2:30 pm
FHSU Campus, Memorial Union, 1st Floor, table by Starbucks
The Geosciences Club and Geosciences Seminar class students will be hosting a table in the Union.
Stop by to find out what Geography Awareness Week is all about! Information will be provided on events through out the week. And, find out more about how Geosciences is out of this world.
Test your world knowledge and awareness! Try out our Trivia. Let us quiz you on your world geography knowledge and see if you can win a sweet treat.
Geography of Tornados

Studies in Geography can be a study of anything, including Tornados.
Join us as we celebrate Geography Awareness Week with this month's lunch talk presented by Dr. Todd Moore.

Curious about Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and want to know (or share) how the daily applications of GIS may be impacting you? Friendsgiving: Foods Around the World
5:00-7:00 pm
Tomanek Hall 2nd Floor
We are hosting a Friendsgiving potluck supper for all who are inclined to explore the world and cultures around you. All are welcome to join us in celebrating a time of giving, sharing, and exploring through taste.
Meat will be provided, we ask that you bring a dish to share with others.
CHALLENGE: Bring a dish, or use seasonings, not common in KS. Extra points for food from around the world.

Campus & Community Challenge
Join fellow students and local community members in a challenge.
FIND 5 Challenge
Today, as you go about your regular activities find 5 things that are from or have been influenced by a culture or region different than where you are currently.
We hope you find a few hidden or unexpected influences. Examples of things to look for: architecture, technology, music, clothing, food, sports, art. Feel free to share what you find with others.

WEEK LONG EVENTS
You Got Globed!
Geosciences Club fundraiser: Nov 13-17
The Geosciences Club is running a ‘Get Globed’ fundraiser to support club activities, this week only you will have the opportunity to globe someone's office on the FHSU campus To globe someone it costs $5 and club members will fill their office or room etc. with the blow up globes. If the person who gets globed wants them removed immediately it is $5, otherwise they will be removed at the end of the day. If the person who gets globed wants to know who globed them, it is an additional $5. To schedule a globing or for additional information email : vcscott@mail.fhsu.edu.
NOTE: Offices being globed will have to receive permission from building/department authorities and a staff member will have to be on site while the globes are being installed and retrieved, this means that some specific requested dates or times might not be available. We will only be able to do a limited number of globbings through the week, so submit your request early!
