This Geoscientist Without Borders grant by the Society of Exploration Geophysicists (SEG) Foundation is to conduct humanitarian geoscience work exploring for groundwater in metamorphic basement rocks. The Society of Exploration Geophysicists through the Geosciences Without Borders program has the mission of supporting the humanitarian application of geoscience around the world. The goal is to make a significant difference in the lives of those in need. To find out more about the SEG Foundation and other project opportunities

Geoscientists Without Borders (International Project)
Our project is to use geophysical techniques that are used to find petroleum in oil fields to find water and then apply biogeochemical methods to test for water quality and figure out if the water is good for human use. We will be collaborating with faculty and students from the Colorado School of Mines, the University of Yaoundé and the Univeristy of Bamenda.
Who
Students interested in the application of geological geophysical and/or geochemical techniques to find, locate and drill for water.
Scope
Students will participate in research projects related to the integration of geophysical methods (e.g. resistivity survey, nuclear magnetic resonance survey, aeromagnetic data analysis, GPS/GIS/ Remote sensing analysis, seismic reflection/ refraction etc.) and water quality (field measurements, sampling, analysis and interpretation) and geological methods (identification, mapping rock attitudes etc.) and/or aquifer delineation and quantification.
Participant background
Undergraduate or graduate interested in research work in geosciences or bio-geosciences at FHSU or partner institutions.
Project Information
FHSU students will do remote sensing GIS related or water quality and aqueous geochemistry projects analyzing and processing field data from project sites
