Academic Program and Course Information
Academic Programs & Degrees - The Department offers baccalaureate and advanced degrees with flexible career emphasis options within Geology and Geography. The department also offers minors in both geology and geography.
Certificate Programs - The Department of Geosciences has two certificate programs. The GIS User Certificate available on-campus and virtual allows students to develop technical skills in analyzing geographic patterns and relationships. The Museum Studies Certificate provides the opportunity for students to develop skills that are valuable in museum settings.
Field Trips - Every semester the Department offers a variety of field trips and field experiences. These trips are designed to expand on concepts learned in core geosciences courses and to provide participants with real-world experience while exploring specific geologic or geographic topics.
Student Academic Planner - This planner is a tool designed to provide students with important academic information and assistance with college success. This file is updated and maintained by the Academic Advising and Career Exploration Center.

GIS Lab - Tomanek Hall 121
The GIS Lab is not an open public computer lab and is available ONLY for the following:
- Geosciences students assigned class or research projects requiring use of specific programs available only in the GIS Lab
- Students registered in a FHSU GIS, Remote Sensing, or Cartography class
- Students/individuals/organizations with written permission to use the lab and related resources for a specified time
GIS Lab Open Hours
GIS Lab will host regular open lab hours during semesters when classes are in session. Open lab hours will begin the 2nd week of classes each semester.
The GIS lab is not a public lab, open lab hours are for students enrolled in GIS or Geosciences classes requiring access to computers and related software.
NOTE: Notices and hours posted on the lab door will take precedence over hours listed on the standard schedule. The GIS Lab is closed during intersessions (such as Spring Break, Fall Break, Christmas Break, Summer) and holidays. Groups or student project participants may request permission to use the lab during regular office hours during intersessions.

This collection is a text-searchable repository of manuscripts 1930 to present written by Fort Hays State University Geosciences graduate students.
