What is Massage Therapy?
Massage Therapy is the manipulation of soft tissue for therapeutic purposes. Massage therapy can reduce stress and anxiety, relax muscles, rehabilitate injuries, reduce pain, and promote overall health and wellness.
Why Study Massage Therapy?
Deepak Chopra says, "Everyone needs a minimal daily dose of touch." Studying massage therapy can change your life and the lives of those you touch.
As a massage therapist, you'll be equipped to build a career in massage clinics, chiropractic offices, doctor offices, health clinics, health clubs, fitness centers, nursing homes, hospitals, hotels/motels, cruise lines, and resorts or spas.
Massage Therapy Academic Programs
The Massage Therapy program at Fort Hays State University offers numerous opportunities for students, whether they're just starting school or coming back to continue their education. This certificate program is flexible-it's offered in a hybrid, online/on-campus format and can be completed in just two semesters.
- Associate of General Studies, Massage Therapy Emphasis
- Certificate in Massage Therapy
- Bachelor of Science in Health Studies with an Emphasis in Massage Therapy
Students who successfully complete the Certificate in Massage Therapy are eligible to complete a Bachelors of Science in Health Studies. In addition to the Massage Therapy Certificate, students must complete the 55 hour General Education requirements, the 25 hour Health Studies Core and a 12 hour Concentration.

FHSU's Massage Therapy program is a member of the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals (ABMP) national organization and the (AMTA) American Massage Therapy Association.
