Background:
David Schmidt has a background in Philosophy and Computing. After study at Bethel College and Harvard Divinity School, he received his doctorate from the University of Kansas. Dr. Schmidt was Director of Computing & Telecommunications at FHSU for over fifteen years and was Director of the Center for Teaching Excellence and Learning Technology for one year. He started his career at FHSU teaching computing courses and philosophy courses before working as a programmer and then in administration. He taught online and face to face courses every year while working at FHSU. He has worked at the University of Kansas, Emporia State University, the University of Texas at Tyler, the Associated Colleges of Central Kansas, Bluffton College (Bluffton, Ohio), Springer Institute (Congo, Africa), Barton County Community College, and at Fort Hays State University. In the Department of Informatics he has redesigned the MIS 101 course, now titled INF 101, as a hybrid and as an online course. He works with adjuncts and with Graduate Teaching Assistants in teaching and administering the INF 101 course sections.
