Transfer Credit Policy

Looking to transfer in credits from another school? FHSU accepts transfer credits from any regionally accredited U.S. institution. During the application process, you will need to submit official transcripts from your previous institutions for consideration of your credits. Transcripts can be sent to the Registrar's office. If you have questions about how your credits might transfer before submitting an application please contact military@fhsu.edu.

Credit for Prior Learning Policy

Fort Hays State University accepts military credits evaluated by the American Council on Education. AP, CLEP, DSST, Excelsior, and ACTFL examination credits are also accepted based upon the evaluation. International credits may also be accepted when evaluated by NACES members.

The Credit for Prior Learning policy regulates how many hours can be applied to each level of degree. If you have questions about how your military credit might be applied to a specific degree program please contact military@fhsu.edu.

Financial Aid

In addition to the traditional federal financial aid through the FAFSA application, there are also a variety of scholarships that students can apply for both at FHSU and through external organizations. Scholarships at FHSU are awarded per academic year and external scholarships can have varying deadlines.

Veteran Benefits (VA)

If you are eligible, there are a few steps to using VA benefits at FHSU and even these can change based on the specific benefit you qualify for. The steps below are the basic first steps to get going:

  1. Register to use your benefits at the VA site eBenefits.
  2. Send a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility after your benefits application has been approved to the VA Certifying Official, Robyn Brungardt, at rjbrungardt3@fhsu.edu.
  3. Fill out the Class Schedule for Veterans Benefits each semester after your academic advisor has approved your pre-enrolled courses so that they can be certified with the VA.

Yellow Ribbon and In-State Tuition

While Fort Hays State University is a Yellow Ribbon School, we are also compliant with SB 702. This means that out-of-state students planning to attend on-campus courses can fill out this form for Kansas Resident Classification. There is no difference in tuition rates for online students based on geographical location.
