How to Apply for Music Scholarships

  1. Apply for Admission to the university.
  2. Sign up for an audition.
  3. Music scholarships will be awarded only when a student is fully admitted to FHSU. 

Audition Requirements

  1. A two-octave major scale
  2. A piece you have prepared for contest
  3. Sightreading
  1. Snare drum solo/etude
  2. Marimba or Xylophone solo/etude
  3. Sightreading
  1. Two contrasting selections from standard classical piano repertoire (memory recommended but not required)
  2. Sightreading
  3. General Musicianship questions - key signatures, scales, cadences, etc.
  1. Two octave scales and arpeggios - major and minor
  2. Two contrasting selections that display your best playing
  1. Two contrasting pieces. An accompanist is provided, so please bring an extra copy of the music
  2. Sight singing. You can sing on lah, loo, or any sight-singing system you have used
  3. Repeat four and five note melodic patterns that will be given to you on piano, sung on lah
  1. A two-octave major scale

Music Scholarship FAQs

Music scholarships are available to all university students, regardless of major.

All music scholarships are awarded on the basis of a competitive audition.

Student must maintain a good GPA, register in lessons, and register in an ensemble.
