Frequently Asked Questions
Yes. You must take the GRE ( http://www.ets.org/gre) within the past 5 years to be considered for admission. Your official scores should be sent from ETS or Pearson directly to the Graduate School. Exceptions to this rule are not made based on credentials, other degrees, or previous work in the school setting. All students will need the entrance exam score in order for the department to review the application.
Currently, our programs are not NASP accredited. However, this does not prevent our students from receiving NASP certification (i.e., the NCSP credential). It simply means our students complete additional paperwork and submit a portfolio upon graduation if they wish to pursue the NCSP. However, you will want to make certain of your own state's requirements prior to pursuing a degree in our program. We are accredited by the state of Kansas (Higher Learning Commission), so our graduates are able to obtain licenses to practice in Kansas K-12 environments.

Effective January 1, 2021, all first-time applicants to the FHSU School Psychology Program must apply at the M.S. level. If upon acceptance and review of transcripts, the committee believes that a candidate may be qualified to begin at the Ed.S. level, the committee will request that the applicant provide relevant syllabi to review for equivalencies of coursework to make a determination regarding possible entry at the Ed.S. level.
Due to the high volume of applications and inquiries, we only evaluate transcripts after an application has been received. If you completed graduate level work from a regionally accredited university and those hours have not counted toward another degree already received, it is possible some hours might be transferable.
The exact length of time to complete the program varies by if a student is registered full-time or part-time and if the student decides to take time off at any point. For a full-time student, it typically takes one year to complete the master's program, one year to complete the EdS program, and one year of work on a paid internship.
If you have decided to apply to the program, requirements and required application forms are provided on our School Psychology website.
To complete your online application and submit required application materials, please visit the Graduate School webpage. Please verify with the Graduate School that your application has been submitted and all additional application materials have been received.
To be considered for admission, your complete application should be submitted by the final deadline of February 1st. Applications which are submitted prior to the deadline and are completed, will receive first priority during the review process. After the application due date, it typically takes a few weeks for a decision to be reached. You will receive official notification from the Graduate School of the department's decisions.
You can call the Graduate School and ask if all of your materials have been received (phone 785-628-4236).
Applications received after February 1 will be reviewed during the next application review period for admittance into the MS program beginning the subsequent Fall semester.
