On-Campus School Psychology Program

Why should you get this degree?
The on-campus school psychology program is designed for students who want the traditional brick and mortar experience of working with faculty face-to-face, and who would like the opportunity to work as graduate teaching assistants. Students in the on-campus program benefit from our close working relationships with local school districts, and have the opportunity to take advantage of hands-on experiences offered through our Psychological Screening Clinic in the Department of Psychology.

How long does it take?
The on-campus school psychology program takes three full years. Year one is dedicated to the MS degree. Year two is dedicated to the EdS degree. Finally, year three is dedicated to completing your 1200 hour internship in a school setting.

Graduate Teaching Assistantships
To reduce the cost of attendance, students enrolled in the school psychology graduate program may be eligible for graduate teaching assistantsips (GTA). For more information on the GTA application process, tuition remission, and allocations, please visit the FHSU Graduate School's GTA page.
What can you do with the degree?
Students earning the MS and EdS in school psychology can pursue careers as school psychologists working with children, parents, teachers, and school administrators in a K-12 setting.Admissions Criteria

How do you apply?
- Go to the FHSU Graduate School website and begin an application
- The Department of Psychology requires the following list of documents. You may want to print this list for future reference.
- Official GRE General or MAT score from the past five years send to the FHSU Graduate School. We do not have a minimum requirement.
- Two professional letters of recommendation
- Statement of intent, including career goals and your interest in the program
- Transcripts from your undergraduate program
- A completed interview questionnaire
Note. All students admitted to the School Psychology Program will be required to provide documentation of passing a background check prior to enrolling in coursework.
How do you apply for the EdS program?
The requirements below are minimum requirements for consideration of admission. Admission to the Ed.S. program is competitive; therefore, meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to the program. All applicants must apply for admission to the Ed.S. program.
- Go to the FHSU Graduate School website and begin an application
- The Department of Psychology requires the following list of documents. You may want to print this list for future reference.
- Two professional letters of recommendation
- Applicant should advise their letter writers to include with the written recommendations:
- A cover letter addressing the applicant’s: (1) work ethic, (2) assessment skills, (3) professional ethics, (4) competency, and (5) ability to manage professional relationships
- Provide a specific example of a difficult situation you have observed the applicant deal with effectively
- Complete the interpersonal interactions rating table
- Applicant should advise their letter writers to include with the written recommendations:
- 3.00 GPA in undergraduate coursework, and a 3.25 in graduate coursework
- All graduate coursework must have resultd in a grade of B or better, with one exception. A grade of C is allowed in PSY 850 or equivalent.
- Interview (Skype or in person) - the Department will contact you for the interview.
- Master’s degree in psychology or a program of studies that is substantially equivalent to the coursework requirements of the FHSU, MS concentration in School Psychology, including documentation of oral or written comprehensive exams. A secondary option to comprehensive exams is to provide scores from designated sections of the EPPP psychology exam.
- If courses equivalent to the FHSU PSY 840 Appraisal of Children and PSY 880 Methods in School Psychology have not been taken within the past 3 years, they will need to be taken as a condition of admittance.
- Official GRE General or MAT score from the past five years send to the FHSU Graduate School. We do not have a minimum requirement.

- Successful completion of background check
- Personal Statement
- Statement of goals for the EdS program and future plans as a school psychologist
- Other information the applicant would like us to know, which may provide the admissions committee with a more detailed picture of the applicant's qualities
- Responses to vignette scenario questions
