Funding Options
Consider Scholarships and Financial Aid
The cost of education abroad varies by program. In some cases, it costs less to go abroad for a semester than it would to live in Hays and take a full course load. In other cases, the cost of living abroad may be more expensive than staying on campus.
There are many options for funding your education abroad experience including scholarships and Federal financial aid. Most exchange programs allow students to use their FHSU scholarships and financial aid packages. For more information about eligible programs and how to receive aid, please contact the Study Abroad Office.
In order to choose a program that best fits your budget needs, it is important to understand how to budget for an education abroad program. First, consider your current costs of attending Fort Hays State and make a plan for how and when you will pay for your program. Use our FHSU Study Abroad Budget Worksheet to help you plan your financial responsibilities.
Using Financial Aid for Study Abroad
- Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). If you choose a summer study abroad program, you also need to complete the Summer Financial Aid Application. The Summer Financial Aid Application can be found under “forms” on the FHSU Financial Aid website starting in March.
- Once you have committed to a Study Abroad Program, the FHSU Study Abroad Coordinator will assist you with your financial responsibilities as it relates to your specific program. Schedule an advising session to discuss your program options.
- If you have any questions about your financial aid, meet with your Financial Aid Counselor in the FHSU Financial Assistance Office located in Picken Hall 202.
- Make necessary arrangements to receive your financial aid. When finalizing your registration in TigerEnroll, you can choose direct deposit to receive your excess funds. If you have questions, call or visit the Student Fiscal Services office.
