Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program - At a Glance
To receive a Master of Science in Counseling, students must complete 60 credit hours of coursework while maintaining a minimum 3.0 grade point average. The Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program is CACREP-accredited and provides the 60 credit hours of coursework required for application to become a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the State of Kansas, meeting the standards set by the Kansas Behavioral Sciences Regulatory Board. The program shares core courses with the School Counseling Program, ensuring a comprehensive foundation in counseling theories and practices. In addition to these core courses, the Clinical Mental Health Counseling Program includes five advanced clinical courses, designed to enhance students' knowledge and skills, with a particular focus on Couples and Family Counseling.
Students are also required to complete a Practicum and Internship at an approved site, which is adaptable to their location and individual needs. These practical experiences provide valuable hands-on learning in real-world settings, further preparing students for licensure and clinical practice.
