Admission Requirements for the Building Leadership (Principal) Graduate Programs
You must meet the established requirements for both the FHSU Graduate School and the Building Leadership (Principal) program. However, the requirements differ somewhat, depending on whether you are non-degree (endorsement) or degree-seeking.
Admission Requirements for the Masters in Science (MS) Degree: Building Leadership (Principal)
Please fill out an application online and meet the requirement listed on the FHSU Graduate School Website. The Graduate School requires that the departmental admission materials listed on this page be in the applicant's file before it is forwarded to the department for evaluation. When applying for this degree program in the Graduate School, look for this title on the application, MS in Education Administration.
The admissions requirements for the Building Leadership (Principal) program take into account your G.P.A., years of experience as a teacher, letters of recommendation, resume, professional goal statement, and evidence of certification in public/private schools.
You must also submit the following documents with your application:
- Two letters of reference from supervisors and/or professional peers, one of which must be from your immediate supervisor, for example, a principal or superintendent from a school district with whom you are currently or were previously employed
- A resume or curriculum vitae of education and professional experiences
- A brief statement of professional goals related to the completion of the master's degree and/or certification as a school administrator
- A copy of your certification credentials for the public or private schools,
- Official transcripts for all college work completed, documenting conferral of an undergraduate degree
Review Process
The program coordinator will review your file and forward a recommendation of approval or denial to the Dean of the Graduate School. Upon acceptance into the program, the program coordinator will appoint an advisor who will be responsible for helping you create your program of study. Applicants who do not register within one academic year after admission may be required to reapply for admission.
Applicants who are denied admission should consider completing an additional year of educational experience (up to three years of educational experience is credited) or take additional courses to improve their overall GPA.
Admission Requirements for the Non-Degree: Building Leadership (Principal) Endorsement
If you already have a master's, you may want to pursue the Building Principal endorsement option; apply to the FHSU Graduate School as a non-degree seeking student. A program of study template consisting of 21 required hours is available for your review. Feel free to make a copy of the Google doc in order to select your courses. Once done, share the doc with Dr. Moody at ramoody-edl@mail.fhsu.edu for final approval. When applying for this program for endorsement only, look for this title on the application, Non-degree Building Leadership (Principal).
