Area of Emphasis: Education
To receive an emphasis in Education, the student must complete 12 of the 15 credit hours listed below from the College of Education and Technology. A sample of courses might include but are not limited to:
TEEL 202 Foundations of Education
An introductory course for students considering a career in professional education. Includes historical, philosophical, and sociological foundations, organization and finance, and teaching and learning.
TEEL 231 Human Growth and Development
A study of the development of the individual over the total life-span. Special attention is given to physical, social, sexual, emotional, intellectual, and linguistic development.
TEEL 230 Diverse Learners
A critical study of the multicultural environment in the American educational system with emphasis pertaining to the culturally diverse learners. The various areas of emphasis will include, yet will not be limited to, the issues of culture, ethnicity, religion, linguistics, and (dis)abilities. Through this course the student will be empowered to deal with diversity in the classroom.
TEEL 260 Children's Literature
This course is designed to provide knowledge of genre of literature, activities, and units that focus on literature, cultural awareness through literature, and the competence in selecting and evaluating books for children. Requisites: PR, sophomore level or PERM
TECS 301 Introduction to Instructional Technology
The 3-credit hour course provides experience in the application of instructional media and technologies for future teachers as well as beginning graduate students needing an introduction to instructional technology. Course content will apply to a variety of instructional settings. Requisites: PR, MIS 101 or equivalent.
