Economic Justice and Advocacy Certificate 2023-2024
Certificate in Economic Justice and Advocacy
Funded by the Innovation and Entrepreneurship grant sponsored by Dr. Tisa Mason, the certificate program comprises 10 credit hours of coursework. Students will acquire a foundational knowledge of victim advocacy and develop strong written communication skills through the following courses:
- CRJ 100 Workshop in Criminal Justice: Economic Justice and Advocacy (1 credit)
- CRJ 367 Victim Advocacy (3 credits)
- BCOM 210 Intro to Professional Development (3 credits)
- SOC 664 Social Entrepreneurship and Grassroots Social Action (3 credits)
OR
SOC 680 Nonprofit Organizations (3 credits)
A special 1-credit hour course within the certificate focuses on developing a workshop or project to be shared with students, faculty, staff, and the community, raising awareness about Gender Based Violence (GBV) and enhancing the well-being of rural communities.
This certificate program aims to foster a more inclusive workplace environment and empower professionals to advocate for GBV survivors, driving positive change and reducing these individuals' constraints.

The certificate in Community Engaged Art is an excellent opportunity for those who wish to participate in and direct authentic community art experiences.

Transformational Relationship Evaluation Scale (TRES II) Framework
For Campus and Community Partnerships
Designed for all members of a community-campus relationship including students, community organizations (and residents), faculty, staff, and administrators, this framework is a critical reflection tool with an embedded 10-item scale including domains of relationships, e.g., power, conflict, and communication, etc. where campus and community partners make meaning of the various components of their relationship.

Student Learning Outcomes
For Faculty Teaching Community Engaged Courses
Students who participate in community engaged courses will meet the following two outcomes:
- External Commitment: Students will assess community needs leading to increased social consciousness.
- Internal Reflection: Students will reflect on personal values for alignment to become an engaged citizen.
Faculty teaching courses that incorporate a community engagement component will use the following rubric to assess student experiences with these outcomes in holistic approach.
