English as a Second Language (ESL) Program Overview

The English as a Second Language (ESL) Program at Fort Hays State University is different from other learning experiences. It is designed to provide maximum listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in a loving and supportive learning environment. International students from around the globe attend FHSU, and the ESL Program assists them in becoming fluent in spoken and written English, passing English competency exams, and preparing them for undergraduate or graduate study at FHSU.

Students are driven to build strong language skills and are given the opportunity to practice grammar and vocabulary skills through conversation in dynamic university classrooms as well as the environment overall. Students are also given individualized tutoring sessions and numerous opportunities to participate in group discussions with an accent-reduction organization. In addition to academic experiences, the diverse campus and town are a perfect combination that allows for excellent multicultural experiences in a friendly and safe community.

In addition to all this information, the ESL Program personnel are caring, patient, and helpful in all situations; in fact, the program simply recognizes themselves as an extended family rather than team of teachers.

We welcome you to research our program further to learn about what we have to offer. If you should need to contact us, please do so with any questions or comments.
