Foster Grandparent Eligibility
To become a Foster Grandparent, a person must:
- Want to make a positive difference in the life of a child
- Be 55 years of age or older
- Be willing and physically capable of serving 5-40 hours per week
- Meet federal income guidelines to be eligible to receive tax-free stipend of $4.00 per hour
- Complete the required National Service Criminal History Checks
- No longer be in the regular work force
Potential volunteer stations may include, but are not limited to:
- Local public and parochial schools
- Preschools and day care centers
- Head Start Centers
- Hospitals
- Homes for unwed mothers
- Juvenile Corrections Programs
- Developmental Disability Centers
To partner with the Foster Grandparents program, a volunteer station must be a licensed or certified public agency, a secular or faith based non-profit organization, or a proprietary health care organization. Placements must not displace paid employees and must avoid staff or clerical assignments.
