Benefits Following Retirement
How can I stay informed about FHSU following my retirement?
By becoming a member of the FHSU Alumni Association, before or after you retire, you will receive the ROAR Magazine two times annually and the FHSU Tiger Talk electronic newsletter.
Do insurance benefits continue after retirement?
A retiree can choose to continue health and/or life insurance by paying premiums directly to the provider. Your spouse and qualified dependents can also remain on the health insurance plan if you choose. Contact your Human Resource Specialist for more information.
Is there a death benefit?
If you receive KPERS retirement benefits, you may be qualified to a $4,000 death benefit that will be paid to the named beneficiary.
What happens to my accumulated Vacation and/or Sick Leave?
When you retire, a lump sum payment will be made for your accumulated vacation and/or sick leave hours.
- Vacation Leave
Vacation leave of up to 176 hours will be paid at termination of employment, and up to 240 hours at retirement.
- Sick Leave
Sick leave will be paid only at retirement based upon years of service and accumulation as follows:

- TIGER IDENTIFICATION CARD - You are eligible to exchange your current Faculty/Staff Tiger Card for a Retiree Tiger Card. Please contact the Tiger Card Center in the Memorial Union to obtain your new card.
- EMAIL ACCESS - Contact TigerTech to continue using your FHSU email account after retirement.
- HALF CENTURY CLUB - The FHSU Alumni Association invites all retirees to join the Half Century Club free of charge. The club meets twice annually, once in the spring and once in the fall during homecoming.
- CULTURAL EVENTS - Tickets for the Campus Theatre Production can be purchased in Malloy Hall 102. Senior citizens over 65 receive a discount on Encore Series tickets.
- ATHLETICS - There is free general admission for regular season games. Additional charges will apply for chair back seating at football games and lower level seating for basketball games. Post-season games are full price. An athletics pass will come in the mail from the President's Office each fall after retirement.
- CUNNINGHAM FACILITIES - Access to the Tiger Fitness Center, pool and gyms are available by a one-time purchase of $50. Stop by Cunningham Hall 111 to receive your lifetime retiree pass.
- CAMPUS PARKING - An honorary parking permit will be provided to all retirees. Simply go to the Center for Public Safety in Custer Hall 112 to obtain your permits.
- LIBRARY ACCESS - Library access is free of charge.
- AUDITING - Most courses can be audited at no charge, but only with permission of the instructor. You will take no examinations nor receive course credit.
- CAMPUS ORGANIZATIONS - Participation in campus organizations is generally free, but please check with the sponsors or presidents of those groups in which you wish to participate.
