INFORMATICS SCHOLARSHIPS
The Department of Informatics provides scholarship opportunities for its students. Funds are provided by individuals and companies aware of the financial commitment that students make to complete their education. These individuals are interested in supporting exploration of how technology works and information moves throughout businesses and the world. Recipients will be selected by the Department of Informatics scholarship committee and/or the Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship scholarship committee.
Departmental Scholarships
Awards of Excellence
Business scholarships are awarded to students in Management, Applied Business Studies, and Informatics These awards are for incoming freshmen only.
Insurance Planning Scholarship
(Best suited for: Computer Networking, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Web and Mobile Application Development majors)
- Declared Information Networking and Telecommunications major, properly registered in the Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship
- Sophomore, Junior or Senior student by the fall semester
- Overall GPA of 3.0 or better
- Must be a graduate of a high school within the state of Kansas
- Must show a permanent residence in Kansas
Jack & Peggy Heather Scholarship
(Best suited for: Digital Media Production and Journalism majors)
- Recipient must have majored in Information Networking & Telecommunications for at least two semesters
- Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or above with a GPA of at least 3.0 in major
- Transfer students studying in a comparable area are eligible under preceding criteria in their first semester.
James Woodmansee Hutchison Scholarship
(Best suited for: Management Information Systems and Information Systems majors)
- Area of study in Management Information Systems
- Incoming Freshman
- 0 or better GPA
Dr. Joseph D. Kirkman Memorial Scholarship
(Best suited for: Management Information Systems and Information Systems majors)
- Declared Management Information Systems major, properly registered in the Robbins College of Business and Entrepreneurship
- Preference will be given to non-traditional students; in the event no non-traditional applicants are qualified, all other applicants will be considered.
- In all other respects, these funds will be awarded without restriction to race, gender, national origin, religion, age, sexual orientation or disability.
Jeanne Lambert Memorial Fund Scholarship
(Open to all majors)
- Undergraduate student properly registered in any curriculum at Fort Hays State University
- Employed by Tiger Media Network (formerly KFHS and The Leader), having worked the semester prior to award.
- Awards will be based upon number and quality of contributions to the Tiger Media Network in the previous semester.
- Keith & Esther Megill Scholarship
(Best suited for: Digital Media Production and Journalism majors)
- Undergraduate student properly registered in Information Networking and Telecommunications (Informatics) curriculum at Fort Hays State University
- Preference will be given to Digital Media Production and Journalism students
(Best suited for: Computer Networking, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Web and Mobile Application Development majors)
- Recipient will be a full-time, undergraduate student majoring in Information Networking & Telecommunications (Informatics) either on-campus or online.
- Recipient must be from Kansas
- Award is renewable as long as the recipient re-applies and continues to meet criteria.
Matthew Schamberger Memorial Scholarship
(Best suited for: Computer Networking, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Web and Mobile Application Development majors)
- Preference will be given to a student majoring in Information Networking & Telecommunications (Informatics)
- Minimum of 3.0 GPA
- Recipient will have exhibited leadership in student organization and activities.
AT&T Foundation Information Networking and Telecommunications Scholarship
(Best suited for: Computer Networking, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, Web and Mobile Application Development majors)
- Applicant will be majoring in Information Networking & Telecommunications (Informatics)
- Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
- Applicant should demonstrate academic potential and leadership in Information Networking & Telecommunications
Edward J. Urban Memorial Scholarship
(Best suited for: Digital Media Production and Journalism majors)
- Recipient will be a promising journalism student.
Charles Watson Memorial Scholarship
(Best suited for: Digital Media Production and Journalism majors)
- Recipient will major in journalism
- Preference given to applicants who demonstrate financial need
- Must have an average GPA
Rick Siebert Media Studies Scholarship
(Best suited for: Digital Media Production and Journalism majors)
- Recipient will be an on-campus graduate or undergraduate Digital Media Production and Journalism major who is active within the Department of Informatics
- Minimum of 3.0 GPA
- Scholarship will be renewable for a second year if student meets original criteria – no student can receive this scholarship for more than two years or the equivalent of four semesters
Bannister Family Scholarship
(Best suited for: any Informatics majors)
- Recipient will be an on-campus Informatics student who has demonstrated a passion for entrepreneurship, examples would be:
- Having started a business
- Living in the Dane G Hansen Scholarship Hall
- Entering a business plan, pitch, or concept competition
- Providing leadership in a FHSU entrepreneurship organization
- Taking entrepreneurship classes outside the Informatics major
Daran M Saint Memorial Scholarship
(Best suited for: Computer Networking majors)
- Recipient must be majoring in Informatics at Fort Hays State University
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0
- Preference will be given to a student working toward a degree in Computer Networking and Telecommunications within the Department of Informatics.
MIS Scholarship
(Best suited for: Management Information Systems, Information Systems majors)
- Recipient must be majoring in Management Information Systems or Information Systems at Fort Hays State University
- Have a cumulative GPA of 3.0
Journalism Scholarship
(Best suited for: Digital Media Production and Journalism majors)
- Recipient should be sincerely interested in collegiate journalism and committed to a career in the discipline

- Recipients must be majoring in on of the following Informatics programs: Management Information Systems, Web Design, Computer Networking and Telecommunications, or Information Assurance (Cybersecurity)
- Must be a graduate of a high school within the state of Kansas
- Preference will be given to on-campus students

(Best suited for: any Informatics majors)
- Recipient must be majoring within the Department of Informatics
- Recipient will demonstrate financial need
Tyler & Jessica Thompson World Ready Informatics Fund Scholarship
(Best suited for: any Informatics majors)
- Recipient must be an undergraduate majoring within the Department of Informatics
- Must be pursuing an internship as part of his/her studies

How to Apply
Complete the Fort Hays State University Scholarship Application, and be sure to review our departmental scholarships. Select only those scholarships for which you qualify. You will not be considered for any scholarship you do not mark, so please be complete. Submit the application electronically at the web site by the due date. Late applications will not be considered.
Other Scholarships Available
Students should also check the section in the Scholarship Application titled General Scholarships, which are available to all students attending FHSU regardless of major. Check with your current high school, community college, or university for information regarding scholarships that may be available to you through foundations, professional and/or civic organizations, corporations, or any locally-granted scholarships.
