Officer Candidate School at FHSU
One of only two in the United States, FHSU's Officer Candidate School (OCS) is a U.S. Army main training program for prospective Army Officers. The school is generally open to qualified enlisted service members, Noncommissioned Officers, and civilians who have completed at least 90 credit hours. Candidates who successfully complete this rigorous training receive commissions in the KSARNG as Second Lieutenants.
The job of an Army Officer is immensely challenging and rewarding. The soldiers you lead will look to you to make the right decisions and lead by example. Officer Candidate School is designed to give you a framework for your role as a unit commander. You will learn tactics training, how to deal with mental and emotional stress, and how to give orders. By the end of the course, you will know how to lead.
OCS training at a glance
Candidates wishing to complete the FHSU OCS program will be current members of the KSARNG, who have completed 90 college credit hours, basic combat training, and OCS Phase I. During their senior year of college, candidates will complete two courses, one in both the fall and spring semesters. These classes are MIL401 Platoon and Staff Leadership I and MIL402 Platoon and Staff Leadership II. These two classes will serve as Phase II of OCS Upon graduation from FHSU, candidates will attend Phase III of OCS. Upon completion of this course, candidates will receive their commission into the KSARNG. Commissioned officers in the KSARNG are qualified to transfer to the active Army or Reserve components.
Explore a possible military career with no up-front commitment
There will be six classes available in addition to the two required classes. These six classes will NOT require ANY level of commitment to the KSARNG. They will simply be in place to let students “test” the military experience, as well as not make Freshmen wait until their Senior year to be involved with the KSARNG community.
