Modern Languages Concentration
About the Program
Build your knowledge in Hispanophone literatures, cultures, and linguistics while further developing your Spanish language skills. Students interested in teaching Spanish will also have the opportunity to pursue coursework in language pedagogy. This concentration allows students to earn at least eighteen hours (six courses) in Modern Languages (Spanish) along with a three-hour culminating experience course. In the culminating experience, students will develop a project over the semester that delves into a specific topic in Hispanic literature, culture, and/or pedagogy under the direction of the MLS Coordinator in Modern Languages. Course Topics for this program will vary by semester, but coursework in the Modern Languages concentration will be completed primarily in Spanish. This program is available fully online.
Program Admissions Requirements
- Bachelor of Arts in Spanish OR a minimum of 30 undergraduate credit hours in Spanish
- This concentration requires a minimum GPA of 2.75 on the last 60 undergraduate hours.
A person seeking admittance to this concentration can take additional coursework at FHSU or elsewhere to build eligibility for application to admission to the concentration. Admittance decisions are made by the MLS Coordinator in Modern Languages, the Chair of the Department of English and Modern Languages, and the Dean of the Graduate School.

Concentration: 21 credit hours

Culminating Experience: 3 credit hours
- IDS 820: Projects in Liberal or Professional Studies
- Course approved by MLS Coordinator
