More than $160,000 in tuition rebates go to FHSU students for fall '09
HAYS, Kan -- More than $160,000 was awarded to Fort Hays State University students for the fall 2009 semester under the Tuition Incentive Program announced last August by Dr. Edward H. Hammond, FHSU president.
TIP funds, designed to offset tuition increases for the 2009-2010 academic year by utilizing a portion of FHSU's share of economic stimulus funds appropriated by the state of Kansas, provide $5 per credit hour to undergraduate degree seeking Kansas residents for on-campus classes in which they earned a grade of C or better during the fall 2009 semester. TIP funds were automatically credited to FHSU student accounts for grades that were posted by the reporting deadline at the conclusion of the semester.
"We awarded $160,170 to 3,018 students this semester," said Craig Karlin, director of the FHSU Student Financial Assistance Office. This means that the average student received more than $50 credited towards their spring 2010 semester.
Eligible students who earned TIP credit and officially graduated from FHSU in December 2009 will be issued a check, which will be sent to their permanent addresses in late January if they are not enrolled in the spring 2010 semester.
TIP funding will also be available to students who earn grades of C or better during the spring 2010 semester and will be credited to the fall 2010 semester.
