Regents' management audit of FHSU completed Jan. 15
HAYS, Kan. -- A management review of Fort Hays State University has found "no identification of inappropriate disbursements," according to the review document.
The review was the latest conducted in response to a request from the Kansas Board of Regents that all six universities in the Regents system conduct such reviews. The review of FHSU was conducted by BKD CPAs & Advisors LLP, Wichita. BKD's report (pdf), officially released Jan. 15, was presented to the Regents at their January meeting.
In their report's conclusion, reviewers praised the cooperation received from university personnel and the ease of access and organization of university records. The report makes some recommendations for improvements to identify and manage potential conflicts of interest and to document some transactions "in a more formal manner."
In a letter (pdf) dated Jan. 8, 2010, FHSU President Edward H. Hammond and Mike Barnett, vice president for administration and finance, detail the university's response to the recommendations.
"We appreciate greatly the observations, recommendations and suggestions, and in many instances, remedies to the findings are already underway," wrote Hammond and Barnett. "We were especially pleased by the fact that, in general, the documentation provided for all transactions was judged to be good or excellent."
