HAYS, Kan. -- Celebrate the Chinese New Year at Fort Hays State University with several events that will bring Chinese dance, music and food to the Hays community.

As part of the celebration, several events are planned for Feb. 13 in the Black and Gold Room in Memorial Union on the FHSU campus. A dumpling party from 6 to 7:30 p.m. will kick off the evening. At 7:30 p.m., Chinese students will ring in the new year with a special performance. Following that, a Chinese New Year video will be viewed. Admission is free and no ticket is required.

The Beach/Schmidt Performing Arts Center will host a myriad of performances in honor of the Chinese New Year on Sunday, Feb. 14. Performances include a peacock dance; traditional opera; a love song for Valentine's Day by the Chinese Student Association; a performance by Jackie Creamer's Dance Studio of Hays; music by local band "Crossfire;" a performance of three dances from the central region of Mexico by Los Girasoles; a demonstration of Tae Kwon Do by Sun Yi's Academy of Hays; and a traditional Turkish belly dance by the Turkish Student Association.

Tickets for the Feb. 14 performance are free, but capacity is limited. Tickets are available at the Student Service Center in Memorial Union, the Hays Public Library, and the Hays Daily News offices.
