FHSU students take center stage
HAYS, Kan. -- Lights, camera, action! Fort Hays State University's Theatre and Fringe Theatre Company present the Director's Showcase, featuring student-directed shows from the spring directing class.
Shows will begin at 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, May 7 and 8, in the Felten-Start Theatre in Malloy Hall on the FHSU campus. Admission is free.
On Friday, Samie Pfeifer, Hays freshman, will direct "Food and Shelter," by Jane Anderson. Adam McElwain, Dodge City special student, Leanne Mersmann, Osage City sophomore, Stephen Berg, Olathe junior, and Hannah McGuire, Roosevelt Elementary School, Hays, third grade, will take the lead roles.
Next will be "Zoo Story," by Edward Albee. Dustin Lacey, Hoisington junior, will direct while Jessica Ammel, Canon City junior, and Berg will star.
Director Anna Lanning, Hayssenior, will come next with "Philosophy and Cabbage," by Eric Ferguson. Perrell Stanley, Hays freshman, and Dusten Germaine, Stockton freshman, star.
"True West" by Sam Shepard will finish the night. Devin Konkel, Harper senior, will direct. Zach Weeks, Beattie sophomore, and Stanley will act.
"Naomi in the Living Room," by Chrisopher Durang, will begin Saturday night's show. Marc Hertel, Hays junior, will direct, Lydia Fuqua, Hanston freshman, Ammel and Stanley will star.
Woody Allen's "Play it again Sideways" will follow with Taylor Lunsford, Hays sophomore, in the director's chair. Konkel, Fuqua and McElwain will act the parts.
The "Cinderella Waltz" written by Don Nigro and directed by Vernon King, Duncanville, Texas, freshman, will be the weekend's finale. Jenny Labes, Delphos freshman, and Germaine will do the acting.
