FHSU history professor awarded Herbert Hoover Travel Grant
HAYS, Kan. -- Dr. Kim Perez, assistant professor in Fort Hays State University's Department of History, has been awarded a Herbert Hoover Travel Grant in the amount of $1,175 by the Herbert Hoover Presidential Library Association.
The grant will fund five days of research at the Hoover Presidential Library in West Branch, Iowa. It will support Perez's research of Lou Henry Hoover's lifetime interest in nature and science.
"My approach to this project will be three-part," Perez said. "In order to understand her continued interest in the sciences and geology, I will examine her trip and geology class notes, her correspondence with those who were integral to her geology training at Stanford, and her collaboration with her husband, Herbert Hoover, on the translation and publication of Agricola's 'De Re Metallica'."
"De Re Metallica," first written in Latin is a 16th Century book on mining, refining and smelting metals.
