FHSU Science & Math Institute receives $500 from Midwest Energy for Power Up event
HAYS, Kan. -- The Science and Mathematics Education Institute at Fort Hays State University recently received a $500 award from the Midwest Energy Community Fund to purchase solar powered model cars for the Power Up for the Future event at FHSU, scheduled for Saturday, May 1.
Registration is still open for the 140 positions available. The cost is $5 per participant or $12 for participants who want FHSU to provide lunch. The day begins at 9 a.m. in Albertson Hall, room 169, before moving to Tomanek Hall for the information sessions and activities.
Each student will be able to assemble a "super solar racing car," race it on a track and then take it home. This event, co-sponsored by the Boy Scouts of America, is for all area students in the third through 12th grades. They will hear presentations on alternative energies, energy conservation and sustainability.
The presentations will be given by local energy experts and FHSU faculty and students and will include hands-on activities, giving students the opportunity to participate in the learning process. Other family members are welcome to attend.
