HAYS, Kan. -- Three Fort Hays State University art students and three professors have art pieces showing as a part of the 2010 Hays Arts Council 41st annual Smoky Hills Art Exhibition. The exhibition runs through June 11 at the Hays Arts Center

The Smoky Hill Exhibition is the state's longest-running juried fine arts competition and is open to all artists living in Kansas. The exhibition includes paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, sculptures and ceramics. Of the 242 art pieces submitted, 74 were accepted

The three students exhibiting works are Brianne Fulton, Nevada, Mo., graduate student, with "Desire Dressed in Bells and Whistles is Still Desire;" Jennifer Higerd, Gem graduate student, with "Pollen" and "Stem Cells;" and Jillian Tatum, Burden senior, with "Cranberry Delight."

Michael Jilg, professor of art and design, is exhibiting "Barbie and the Dumb Sheets" and "ode to a Russian Poet." He also won a $250 cash award

Amy Schmierbach, associate professor of art and design, is exhibiting "Quiet Spaces 5." She won a $100 cash award.

Gordon Sherman, professor of art and design, is exhibiting "Trust Habit." He won a $150 cash award.
