Two FHSU Virtual degrees chosen for Career NCO Degrees Program
HAYS, Kan. -- Soldiers in the Career NCO Degrees Program of the U.S. Army can earn a Bachelor of Science in organizational leadership and a Bachelor of General Studies with a concentration in general business through Fort Hays State University's Virtual College starting in summer 2010.
"We want to provide the best educational opportunities for our military service members," said Debbie Staab, academic advisor and military specialist for FHSU's Virtual College. "Service members are eager to obtain a higher education. They are focused, disciplined and understand the value of higher education. The flexibility of our programs allows the service members to start or finish their degree no matter where they are stationed or where they may be transferred. Our degree programs fit their schedule."
The Career NCO Degrees Program, part of the U.S. Army Training and Doctrine Command's College of the American Soldier, expands civilian education choices for non-commissioned officers. The program provides soldiers with degree options that will enhance leadership capabilities while maximizing college credit granted for military experience and NCO training.
Dennis King, director of the Virtual College and learning technologies, was notified on Feb. 25 of the selection. Many factors were considered in the review and selection of degrees, and only a limited number of business and management related degrees chosen as a Career NCO degree.
"FHSU's Virtual College is dedicated to serving the military communities. Our goal is to provide accessible, affordable, innovative, high quality learning opportunities and degree programs that meet the diverse needs of our students," said Staab.
