HAYS, Kan. -- Students of the Western Kansas String Academy at Fort Hays State University will team up with the Hays Public Library to present a special pajama story hour concert for pre-school and early elementary school students at 7 p.m. Monday, April 12, in the library's Downstairs Gallery.

The 45-minute presentation includes short performances by WKSA's pajama-clad musicians, storytelling with musical illustrations and hands-on experimenting on instruments for the audience.

The evening features two music picture books.

"Patrick," by Quinten Blake, is a magical tale in which Patrick plays the violin he bought for one silver piece. As he does, fish begin to sing and fly through the air, cake and ice cream grow on apple trees, cows begin to dance and many other strange things happen.

"Max, the Music-Maker," by Miriam Stecher, follows the curious pre-schooler Max as he finds and creates music in his everyday surroundings.

Children of all ages are welcome to attend -- in their PJs -- for this special event, which exposes youth to string music in a light-hearted setting.
