HAYS, Kan. -- Three students from the Fort Hays State University Department of History wrote award-winning papers for a competition sponsored by the Kansas Association of Historians.

In the undergraduate category, Josh Blau, Hays special graduate,won with his paper "Reagan and Gorbachev: Ending the Cold War." This paper was one of several writing requirements during the course. Blau was awarded $125.

In the graduate category, two students tied for the award: Hollie Marquess, Plainville special graduate, with her paper "Safeguarding Their Health and Preserving Their Purity," and Eric Quaidoo, Pittsfield, Mass., graduate student, with his paper "United States Policy with Ghana Between 1957 and 1966." Marquess and Quaidoo were awarded $125 each and a year's subscription to Kansas History Magazine.
