FHSU government elects new leadership
Student and faculty senates at Fort Hays State University have recently elected new leadership for the 2010-2011 academic year.
Dr. Rita Hauck, associate professor of technology studies, was elected president of the Faculty Senate. She holds a Ph.D. in curriculum and instruction from the University of Kansas, an M.B.A. from FHSU, an M.A. in education and a B.A. in social science from California State University-Los Angeles, and an A.A. from Pasadena, Calif., City College.
She joined FHSU in 1996 as an instructor in the College of Business and Leadership and then became an assistant professor of technology studies in the College of Education and Technology. She served a year as interim chair of the Department of Teacher Education and two years an assistant dean and director of clinical experience in the College of Education and Technology.
Dr. Chapman Rackaway, associate professor of political science, was elected vice-president of the Faculty Senate. He holds a Ph.D. in political science from the University of Missouri, Columbia, an M.A. in political science from the University of Missouri and a B.A. in political science with a minor in German from Millikin University, Decatur, Ill.
He joined FHSU in 2003 as an assistant professor of political science and was promoted to associate professor in 2008. He has taught at the University of Missouri; Columbia College, Columbia, Mo.; Lincoln University, Jefferson City, Mo.; and Linn State Technical College, Linn, Mo. He was also the chair of the Department of Political Science at Linn State.
Tyler Thompson, Derby junior, was elected Student Government Association president. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in information networking and telecommunications with an emphasis in information assurance. He was the vice president of SGA this past year, serving on the Allocations Committee and the National Survey of Student Engagement steering committee, among others. He is a member of the Advanced Technology Student Organization, Information Assurance Student Organization and the Marketing Management Association.
Alex Hendee, Roeland Park freshman, was elected Student Government Association vice president. He is pursuing a Bachelor of Science in political science with an emphasis in legal studies. This was his first year as a senator, and he was involved in the Senate Affairs committee. He is also a member of the cross-country and track team at FHSU and received a scholar athlete award.
