KFHS moves to Channel 17

HAYS, Kan. -- Fort Hays State University's KFHS television has moved to Channel 17 on Eagle Communication's cable television systems in Ellis, Hays, Russell and WaKeeney. The station, previously shown on Channel 67, is now part of the basic cable package.
The change will not affect the communities served through the Nex-Tech Cable System. These communities are: Agra, Almena, Alton, Athol, Bogue, Collyer, Damar, Edmond, Galatia, Gaylord, Gove, Grainfield, Hill City, Jennings, Kensington, Lenora, Logan, Long Island, Morland, Natoma, Norton, Olmitz, Osborne, Palco, Phillipsburg, Plainville, Quinter, Rexford, Selden, Smith Center, Victoria, Woodston and Zurich.
KFHS will cover all home football and basketball games this year as well as several volleyball matches. In addition, it will broadcast many of the shows it has produced in the past, such as Times Talk and Student Government Association meetings.
"Mostly all of our shows that we had last year will be aired again this year," said Steve Schleicher, interim chair of the Department of Informatics, "and we'll probably have some additional shows as well."
Eagle Communications moved KFHS to Channel 17 as a way to "put it in its intended home," said Travis Kohlrus, director of community relations and product development.
He said KFHS best fits into the basic programming package, but there was not an opportunity to put it in the lower tier programming until now. This makes KFHS available to more viewers.
