HAYS, Kan. -- Art and Design, an exhibition of works by Leland Powers, chair of the Department of Art and Design at Fort Hays State University, will open Friday, Aug. 27, in the department's Moss-Thorns Gallery of Art, Rarick Hall, room 102. The Fall Gallery Walk reception from 7 to 9 p.m., will include refreshments and musical entertainment.
Powers will show paintings and works of interior design which are the result of a sabbatical leave. Included are also vignettes, interior and exterior settings, and paintings on furniture which he constructed.
"The process of conceiving, painting, and producing new work is exhausting yet exhilarating," Powers said. New and different historical references, new color combinations, new surfaces to paint upon, new materials to cast and fabricate, and new professional collaborations, all were a part of my sabbatical leave."
The reception will also feature music by Ben Morris-Cline, chair of the Department of Music, and Matt Means, assistant professor of music.
