FHSU Alumni Association to host special events and start new alumni club

HAYS, Kan. -- Two public events this month sponsored by the Fort Hays State University Alumni Association will kick of a drive to start a new alumni club.
The After Hours at the Robbins Center social, 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 9, at the Robbins Center, is an opportunity for alumni to meet while learning about current FHSU happenings, such as the Encore Series, homecoming, concerts and athletics.
Tim Callahan, assistant athletic director, will introduce Steve Johnson, the new head baseball coach, and Craig Shaw, the head coach for the new women's soccer program. The event features beverages and hors d'oeuvres, as well as door prizes. Tickets are available for $5 online or by contacting the alumni office.
"Grit, Spirit, and Character: The Story of the Lewis Field Pioneers" will tell the story of the Lewis Field Project -- a determined group of young men who made their way to FHSU during the depths of the Great Depression. This event is at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 16, at the Robbins Center.
Dr. Arris Johnson, retired professor of education, will share the story of the pioneers and how these young men and the visionary leadership of FHSU president Clarence Rarick shaped FHSU as we know it today. Johnson was one of the pioneers. Reservations are not required.
