HAYS, Kan. -- For the third year, Fort Hays State University has been recognized as a military-friendly school by GI Jobs Magazine. FHSU made the top 15 percent of all schools nationwide and is eligible for additional resources designed to maximize recruiting efforts to prospective military and veteran students.

The criteria for making the Military Friendly Schools list includes efforts to recruit and retain military and veteran students and results in recruiting military and veteran students and academic accreditations.

"The university works hard to put its best foot forward for all students, including all the soldiers, sailors, airmen and Marines who take classes from us while serving at their duty stations around the world," said Dr. Joey Linn, associate vice president for student affairs and registrar.

"It is important to meet the needs and expectations of the different segments of our student body," he said. "Soldiers, sailors and airmen all over the world have given us very positive feedback about the flexibility of our academic programs, the affordability of our tuition and our outstanding faculty."

"We are an institution where active duty military personnel and veterans receive all the help we can give them and they can use all the benefits they have earned by their service," said Dennis King, director of FHSU's Virtual College and Learning Technologies.

"Being designated as a military-friendly university in GI Jobs magazine helps us get the word out to active duty and veteran students," he said.

As a military friendly school, FHSU will be included in a basic listing in GI Jobs magazine's "Guide to Military Friendly Schools," which publishes in September. This list offers veterans guidance on which schools are doing the most to embrace them as students.

The Virtual College delivers course work to students at locations and times that fit their busy schedules. It delivers mediated courses in degree and non-degree programs from FHSU's College of Arts and Sciences, College of Business and Leadership, College of Education and Technology, and College of Health and Life Sciences through various formats, including but not limited to interactive television, video, DVD and the Internet.
