HAYS, Kan. -- The Sociology and Social Work Department at Fort Hays State University will present "A Muslim American's Experience" by Dr Abdul Ahad Haleem, an orthopedic surgeon formerly at Hays Orthopedic Clinic, at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 29, in the Black and Gold Room of the Memorial Union.
Haleem has presented to students in Dr. Patricia Levy's multicultural classes each semester for the last four years. He will speak on the current issues of prejudices and stereotypes many people have of Muslims and how Muslim Americans feel. He will try to answer questions non-Muslim Americans have as well as cover the basics about Islam. A question and answer time will follow.
"It gives me a great pleasure to interact with people of different backgrounds and share their life experiences," said Haleem. "I aim to find common grounds with people of various faiths in order to promote understanding and bring peace."
"A Muslim American's Experience" is free and open to the community. For more information contact Levy, assistant professor of social work, at 628-4389 or by e-mail at plevy@fhsu.edu.
