HAYS, Kan. -- High school students from all over Kansas will come to Fort Hays State University on Tuesday, Nov. 9, to compete in the Math Relays.

Competition testing is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. to noon. Awards will be presented from 1:30 to 2 p.m. in the Memorial Union.

There will be 542 high school students from 44 different schools competing in the relays. Students will take a series of tests covering the topics of number sense, trigonometry, algebra, geometry, applications and calculations with calculators.

Some students will take the tests individually (and compete against others doing the same) while some will compete in teams of three, similar to a track relay race. In the team relays, each student will work for one-third of the time.

Awards will be presented to the individuals and teams that place in the top three in their grade level. School awards will also be given to the top three schools that earn the most points in their Kansas State High School Activities Association classification. Divisions are 1A; 2A to 3A; and 4A to 6A.
