HAYS, Kan. -- Fort Hays State University has been selected as a Military Advanced Education magazine's 2010-2011 Top Military-Friendly Colleges and Universities Honoree for the second consecutive year. Its submission form and essay will be published in the December 2010 issue.
Earlier this year, GI Jobs Magazine also recognized FHSU as a military-friendly school for the third consecutive year.
Military Advanced Education considered different criteria than GI Jobs.
"Between the two, we end up doing a large review of our numbers and our procedures and how we deal with military students and their spouses," said Dennis King, director of the Virtual College and learning technologies at FHSU. "But they both look for different things as far as services we offer, degree programs that we have available and policies. It really kind of covers all areas."
FHSU and its Virtual College offer a variety of services for its students, military personnel and veterans.
"We offer a number of high quality programs, which is important because different people have different interests," King said. "It gives them the flexibility of finding a job that's right for them. The low tuition rate allows service members to receive a degree and pass part of their tuition they are given to their immediate family."
"We really respect service members and what they do for us. We have a special place in all our hearts for all the service members," he said. "We're just happy that we can get them the high quality education that they deserve."
This fourth annual guide is published to assist veterans in selecting or continuing their advanced education.
According to its website, "Military Advanced Education is the only magazine produced specifically for service members seeking to take advantage of the military education benefit. MAEcovers issues and trends in distance learning and education as they specifically relate to military life, including innovative programs, military educational policy, financial aid and coursework that offers special opportunities for military personnel."
