HAYS, Kan. -- Fort Hays State University ceramics will host a two-day workshop featuring Arthur Gonzalez on Saturday, Feb. 5, and Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011.
A world-renowned master of the ceramic figure, Gonzalez will demonstrate his hollow building techniques to capture personality and expression in the human face and form, said Linda Ganstrom, professor of art.
"We are gathering mixed media objects, and Arthur will discuss his methods and demonstrate techniques for incorporating found objects in his sculpture," she said.
The workshop is $100 for adults and $50 for student guests. It is free for FHSU ceramics students.
Gonzalez will give a free public lecture from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 4, 2011, in the art history room, Rarick Hall, room 114.
On Saturday and Sunday, the workshop will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. An optional "Hands-on Clay Experience" will be from 3 to 5 p.m. both days. Critiques with FHSU advanced ceramics students will also be from 3 to 5 p.m. both days.
