FHSU students use creativity to tell their stories

HAYS, Kan. -- Fort Hays State University's Tell Your Story Student Contest gave students the opportunity to express their creativity through video/animation, digital photography, graphic design and original writing.
Micah Smith, Kincaid freshman, won grand prize with his video/animation entry.
Students entered projects in any of the four categories to tell a unique story. The grand prize winner received a new iPad. First place in each category received Flip cameras, and second place in each category received iPod shuffles.
Winners are listed by hometown, classification, category and award.
BURLINGTON, Colo.: Brandon Penny, sophomore, photography, first place.
HAVEN: Wayne "Trey" Morgan III, special graduate student, video/animation, first place.
HUGOTON: Akela Miller, freshman, graphic design, first place.
KINCAID: Micah Smith, freshman, video/animation, grand prize.
NATOMA: Teresa Webb, freshman, original writing, first place.
NESS CITY: Tara Mahoney, senior, original writing, second place.
SALINA: Ryan Claybaugh, freshman, graphic design, second place.
Entries were judged based on quality, creativity and how well they told their FHSU story, said Hayley Bieker, Virtual College online student communication strategist.
The panel of judges was made up of Bieker, Cynthia Garrety, coordinator of the Learning Commons, Brad Goebel, Virtual College staff member; Dennis King, director of the Virtual College and learning technologies; Dr. Mary Martin, associate professor of management and marketing; Casey Rohleder, Academic Affairs marketing specialist; and Andy Tincknell, video production specialist for the Center for Teaching Excellence and Learning Technologies.
The contest ran from Oct. 28 to Nov. 29 and was open to current FHSU students taking a minimum of six credit hours. It was sponsored by the Office of the Provost, the Virtual College and the Learning Commons.
