HAYS, Kan. -- Emily Dickinson and her story of self-exile in Amherst, Mass., is coming to Fort Hays State University Theatre in its presentation of "The Belle of Amherst"by William Luce.
Starring Brenda Meder, director of the Hays Arts Council, the show tells the story of one of America's most prolific poets and her struggle with society and life.
"The entire script is made up of poems by Emily Dickinson, so while you're watching the play, you're hearing words she has written, which is pretty cool," said Jenni Rajewski, director of theatre at FHSU. "The play basically tells the story of the great poet during the 1850s through the 1860s."
Rajewski recommended this play as a "must see."
"The Belle of Amherst"will open at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5. A second performance will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6. Tickets are $14 for the public and $10 for FHSU students with valid student ID.
