HAYS, Kan. -- Nuclear power programs, eliminating racism and protecting children's rights in post-conflict territories are just a few topics discussed by 26 Fort Hays State University students at the annual Midwest Model United Nations in St. Louis, Mo.
FHSU Model UN Club Members participated in a model United Nations simulation with students from 50 other universities from across the Midwest. Students role play as United Nations delegates addressing worldwide issues. This year, FHSU students represented the countries of Iran, Somalia and Morocco.
"It was a very good learning experience for the students," said Dr. Curtis Brungardt, Omer G. Voss Distinguished Professor of Leadership Studies and program advisor. "It shows that they possess a growing interest in world affairs and global issues."
FHSU's Model UN Club is supported by the university's American Democracy Project, Center for Civic Leadership, the Department of Political Science, the Department of Leadership Studies and the Student Government Association.
