Students show art skills at High School Art Exhibition

HAYS, Kan. -- More than 1,500 students from about 55 schools are expected to attend Fort Hays State University's 37th annual High School Art Exhibition from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Wednesday, April 20, at Gross Memorial Coliseum. The Event is Hosted by FHSU's Department of Art and Design.
Past entries include sculptures, pencil drawings, oil and acrylic paintings, ceramics, and graphics.
The exhibition serves as a recruiting tool for the department. High school students may participate in art projects throughout the day.
Students may also take part in a sidewalk drawing competition. The winning sidewalk art champion school has the honor of taking home a traveling trophy for the year.
Judges are: John Thorns, emeritus professor of art and former chair of the Department of Art and Design; Cal Mahin, former art instructor at Colby Community College; Christina Hagley, instructor of art and design; Kathleen Kuchar, emeritus professor of art; and Darrell McGinnis, emeritus professor of art. Martha Holmes, assistant professor of art and design, will judge the sidewalk drawing contest.
